“It’s not what happens to you, it’s about what you do after what happens to you.”

Travis Roy was born on April 17th, 1975. As many youths do, he dreamed of becoming a professional athlete. He received the first pair of ice skates from his Dad, at twenty months old. Travis was blessed with the raw talent and ability to play ice hockey, at a high level. As a Freshman in High School, coaches who realized his potential, encouraged him to transfer schools, to better his chances at receiving a college scholarship. After a second transfer, he was awarded a full ride scholarship to Boston University.
“It was a dream come true”, recalls Roy. He had achieved his first goal, toward becoming an NHL player.
In October of 1995, he came off the bench to take his first shift with The Terriers. Eleven seconds later, his Life and Legacy were forever altered.
During his four months stay in the hospital, Travis Roy had a Vision. As he glanced down the hallway, he saw families who had needs for specialized equipment, to facilitate care for their loved ones.
His body may have been confined to a chair, but his mind knew no limits. Hence was born; The Travis Roy Foundation and the rebirth of Travis Roy, as a paraplegic. Half of the proceeds from his foundation went to helping families procure such equipment and the other half to research. “If I can have a small part in that, it gives my life meaning.” – Travis Roy
